meet Ranitomeya Benedicta

Over 1200 new species have been discovered in the Amazon lately and this little fellah is one of them. To me this is one of the coolest and most hip frogs on the planet (found in Peru). While we humans create artificial 'skins' to differentiate from one another and reflect our status within society this one just wants to be left in peace by pretending he's a little bag of poison. It almost looks like a red frog wearing a neoprene suit. Colors of nature. AJ

  1. Absolutely gorgeous - I could dress up in this for Halloween, even the name sounds scary :-) Darwin called this the Survival of the Fittest in his Natural Selection theory explaining that animals do this to differentiate themselves from each other to stay competitive as well as attractive to maintain and propagate their species. Viruses go even further by constantly mutating within their own strains to create new strains at a speed that modern medicine just can't keep up with. As a Newsweek article once reported, how can we compete with a species that has survived through mutation (call it innovation?) for the last million years? Interestingly enough we can argue then that given how long we've been on this planet and evolving, how likely would it be for a brand to keep up with our changing desires?

  2. very interesting indeed. The smallest form of organism is the most adaptable to change. Plankton and algae has been around for millions of years as well. Those will most likely survive the most severe impact on our ecosystem.
